Improving Your Red / Blue Line

I often hear people ask the question, "My red line is going down, am I doing something wrong?" The short answer is maybe.

Maybe you are doing something wrong. On the other hand, maybe you are not. The red and blue lines in PokerTracker3 represent the money you win at showdown (blue line) and the money you win without a showdown, when everyone else folds (red line).

My advice for your red line? Ignore it completely. Some people's goes up, some people's goes down. The only line you need to be concerned about at the end of the day is the one that shows how much money you win or lose.

Just because an action is *successful* does not make it the *most profitable* action. Your red line would go straight up if all you did is go all in every single hand. Your red line would go down if you were extremely adept at reading your opponent, letting them catch second best hands, and pay you off at showdown. If you're frequently blowing your opponent off hands where you're best, your red line will go up.

The goal is to make your red line go up without sacrificing any of your blue line. In short, using your red or blue line to evaluate your play is bad poker.
